Le Jeu de Robin et Marion (The Play of Robin and Marion) is often considered the earliest surviving musical comedy in Western music history. It was written in the 1280s by the trouvère—a Picard-language singer-songwriter—Adam de la Halle (1240–1288), also known as Adam d'Arras.

We intended for our version of Le Jeu de Robin et Marion not to be conceived as a historical reenactment, but rather as an act of transmission tailored to our times—transforming this ancient story into a narrative built upon values that still resonate with us today: resistance to the absurd, resilience grounded in hope, and the collective strength and spirit of the group.

Creative Partners: Fontfroide Abbey, Sylvanès Abbey, Clermont-Auvergne-Opéra, Mâcon Symphonies, Centre International de Musiques Médiévales de Montpellier.

STABAT MATER with le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu

Jacopone da Todi (vers 1230-1306) Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (1678-1741)

8 to 9 persons on tour

Two musical ensembles: one observing medieval traces from Clermont-Ferrand, the other specializing in researching and bringing to light Baroque scores from Lyon.

The supplication of the Stabat Mater is an excerpt from the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary. It focuses on the fifth sorrow, as Mary stands at the foot of the Cross. We have chosen 13th-century laude from the Cortona manuscript to enrich this project.

This creative project centered on the Stabat Mater revolves around a form of "sacred cry" from any person—from near or far, past or present—suffering the loss of a child. Around this pivotal work by Vivaldi, together with Khaï-Dong Luong, we have woven a tapestry of ancient chants and modern sorrows... Responding to Vivaldi's melodies are medieval songs, yet each medieval piece serves as a threshold opening onto another time, another lament.

INITIATION TO FREEDOM

Medieval song, traditional singing, overtone singing

2 to 3 persons on tour

Two singular voices—overtone singing and medieval lyric poetry—intertwine for a moment that reflects our shared capacity to "come together" through timeless songs, from here and beyond:

- Sunrise: featuring bird song and the promise of a new day.

- The Middle Ages: evoked through the songs recorded in the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat manuscript.

- The Water: from the source we drink, to the sea upon which the sailor navigates. Isabeau, left behind on dry land, laments her lover's departure across the ocean.

- The Celebration: with young men coming down from the mountain to dance in their wooden clogs. But where is Yoyette? Perhaps at church...

One thing is certain: there will always be a song to fill the heart and soul.

THE THEATRE OF THE DIVINE COMEDY

Cine-performance

1 to 2 persons on tour

Participatory format available
7 to 8 persons on tour

KARAKORUM
A 13th-Century Musical Journey
7 to 8 persons on tour

Logo_CNFU_Patronage_1200Dpi.jpg

This show has been performed over forty times in France and internationally (Belgium, Austria, Australia, etc.). The concert is inspired by the story of the Franciscan friar William of Rubruck who, twenty years before Marco Polo's journey, traveled to Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire. At the court of Möngke Khan on Whitsun (Pentecost) 1254, the monk organized a theological debate. His account has come down to us through a manuscript letter addressed to King Louis IX.

This program was co-produced with the Fondation Royaumont, the City of Gonesse, and the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu, with the support of the City of Saint-Leu-d’Esserent. In 2024, a participatory version was created in partnership with Clermont-Auvergne-Opéra.

LIVRE VERMEIL DE MONTSERRAT
Participatory format available
7 to 8 persons on tour

Marc Dumont – France Musique
